About Ruturaj Gaikwad
Full Name: Ruturaj Dashrat Gaikwad
Date of Birth: January 31, 1997
Birthplace: Pune, Maharashtra
Teams: India National Team, Chennai Super Kings (IPL), Maharashtra (domestic)
Ruturaj Gaikwad is the perfect blend of classical elegance and modern efficiency — a batter who makes the game look effortlessly beautiful. In an era of power-hitters and explosive strokeplay, Ruturaj stands out with his poise, timing, and cricketing intellect. From the bylanes of Pune to donning the yellow jersey of CSK and the blue of India, his rise has been built on quiet grit and undeniable talent.
Born into a middle-class Maharashtrian family, Ruturaj’s early life was rooted in discipline and education. His father worked in the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), and his mother was a schoolteacher — a humble background that shaped his values. Though he excelled academically, his love for cricket pulled him to the grounds of Pune’s famed Vengsarkar Cricket Academy. His talent was soon recognized, and he began climbing the junior ranks rapidly.
Ruturaj debuted for Maharashtra in 2016, making an immediate mark in domestic cricket. His ability to construct an innings and handle pressure stood out. In 2019, he truly grabbed attention by finishing as one of the top run-getters in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, which earned him a spot in the India A squad.
His big break came when Chennai Super Kings (CSK) picked him up in the 2019 IPL. But it was in IPL 2020 — played in the UAE under difficult bio-bubble conditions — that Ruturaj announced himself. After a slow start and recovering from COVID-19, he scored three consecutive fifties towards the end of the season, showcasing maturity and elegance well beyond his years.
In IPL 2021, he reached new heights, scoring 635 runs and winning the Orange Cap. His most memorable innings came in the final against Kolkata Knight Riders, where his composed knock helped CSK clinch their fourth title. The performance earned him immense praise from none other than MS Dhoni, who had long backed him to succeed.
Ruturaj’s international debut came in July 2021 during India’s limited-overs tour of Sri Lanka. Though opportunities were initially limited, he kept performing consistently in domestic and IPL matches. In 2023, he delivered standout performances for India in T20Is and ODIs, including a calm and stylish century against South Africa in an ODI series that showcased his adaptability at the highest level.
One of Ruturaj's most significant achievements came in October 2023, when he led India to a gold medal at the Asian Games in Hangzhou as captain — a proud moment for Indian cricket and a testament to his leadership potential.
Off the field, Ruturaj is soft-spoken, respectful, and rooted. He maintains a low profile despite his growing fame. In June 2023, he married Utkarsha Pawar, a fellow cricketer from Maharashtra, and the couple has since shared a grounded, close-knit bond.
Ruturaj Gaikwad is not just the future — he is the elegant now. With his head on his shoulders and bat in full flow, he represents the kind of cricket that connects generations — classic in style, modern in mindset, and consistent in impact.
